Doula Services

Welcome to Julie Saunders Doula Services

My name is Julie and I am a birth and Postpartum Doula trained through DONA. I am looking for families who could use my support during their birth and the postpartum period.  I believe everyone can benefit from having a Doula when bringing a new baby into the world.
"When you change the way you view birth, the way you birth will change." - Marie Mongan

What is a Doula?

Doula comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves". Doulas today are known as experienced and trained individuals that help women during labour by offering physical, emotional, and informational support. Doulas are present before, during, and afterbirth and can include their services during the postpartum period.

Research shows that having a Doula can shorten you labour and decrease complications.

Birth Doula

Offers support to families before baby arrives by going over helpful position changes, relaxation techniques, creating a birth plan, answering questions, and encouraging the family to prepare for a birth that is their choice.

Supports women during labour by using comfort measures, giving emotional support and offering informational guidance. Assists the woman's partner to be involved at a level that is comfortable.

Fosters open communication between the labouring woman and her partner/clinical care providers

Postpartum Doula

Supports new mothers by offering education on caring for a newborn, recovery from birth, and overall coping strategies.

A Postpartum Doula will help you transition into your new role as a new family with confidence.

About Me

I myself have three wonderful children, and it's been such an amazing adventure for my husband and I. I never tire of hearing about people's experiences and birth stories. I find it fascinating how one moment in life can be so different to so many people. I decided to become a Doula because I had a strong desire to help other mothers and fathers enter into parenthood with confidence and ongoing support. Looking back on my first birth experience I wish I had a Doula, someone to tell me what I was experiencing was normal and to support me throughout any difficulties that should arise. As your Doula I am confident you can have the birth experience that you and your family are looking for. Things can happen, and birth plans can change but as your Doula I can support you through the changes if they arise.
I have had the pleasure of encouraging woman to recognize this strength and believe in themselves and I can only hope that these moments continue.

Testimonials

Julie’s Doula services were invaluable during my birth. I mostly laboured at home, so she was my sole resource for pain management and position changes to help labour progress. I was particularly appreciative that she was open to schedule changes when things were progressing quickly and I needed her to arrive earlier than expected!

She jumped right in with comfort measures, and was always open to changing it up if things stopped working. She further helped with the transition to the hospital, and she worked in perfect sync with my midwives and husband as I delivered my baby.  She was attentive to the situation, and her techniques changed depending on my needs in the moment. When I think back on my birth experience, it was a bit of a whirlwind. I’m so glad I had Julie there to help relieve me from all practical responsibilities (remembering my glasses, helping with my bags, and even registering at the check-in desk while I went to my hospital room!) so I could concentrate on my labour.

Julie’s kind and professional demeanour was wonderful and I would highly recommend her services to anyone!
